Delta state governorship/house of assembly motoring, live updates, results

Delta state governorship/house of assembly motoring, live updates, results – Today the people of Delta State along with 26 other states will go to polls to decide who will pilot the affairs the state for the next four years; the contest is basically a two horse race between the incumbent Governor Ifeanyi Okowa from Delta North senatorial district and longtime opposition candidate in the state, Great Ovedje Ogboru from Delta central senatorial zone.

For many in the state, the governorship position is the birthright of the incumbent governor whose zone enjoys “their turn” according to PDP zoning arrangement; many others however disagrees especially members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who believes that governance goes beyond tribalism and where one come from – to them it should be about qualifications and meritocracy towards taking the state to where it should be.

It’s about fairness and equity, “let Governor Ifeanyi Okowa be allowed to finish his turn” says PDP chieftain in Akwukwu Igbo, who believes it is only “fair” for Okowa to continue in office; but an elder statesman from Ndokwa east disagrees with that version of fairness and equity when he says “Great Ogboru has been consistently cheated out of power since 2003 by the PDP and in the interest of fairness and equity Ogboru deserves to win the 2019 governorship contest”.

There is also the Chief James Onanaefe factor, the former governor turned kingmaker who wishes his influence continues forever, but many in some quarters believe the old guard should be discarded and a new era ushered in.

The above postulations are the realities on ground in today’s contest and quite frankly it could go either way, the incumbent have behind him a loyal Delta North zone and sympathetic party faithfuls scattered across the state, while APC’s Ogboru have the support of Delta Central and the loyalty of party men and women across the state.

This is the first time ever in the history of Delta guber race the incumbent is lacking federal might, and Great Ogboru has gained it for the first time in his chase of the top job in the state; and if the rumors are true, the national chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomole will love to clinch the state for a more cordial relationship to take place with Edo State.
