Outrage in Abia state as government tax residents for drilling boreholes – There has been outpour of anger in Obingwa local government area of Abia State over thirty thousand naira (N30,000) levy for drilling borehole for both private and commercial purposes.

In a memo from the local government council sighted by Financial Watch, residents in the local government are demanded to pay up the levy within seven days or face impoundment of their boreholes and prosecution.

Further investigation reveals the levies for private water supply by residents in the area has been going on for over three years which is yet to get full compliance from the citizens.

However, residents of Obingwa local government and other stakeholders are nolonger taking the levies lightly as they have condemned the heavy taxation for a project as water supply which the government has failed to provide.
