Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Recruitment portal 2019: Requirements & how to apply – These are the recruitment requirements one must meet in order to join the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) as of 2019. The Kenya Defence Forces are the armed forces of the Republic of Kenya which comprise the Kenya Army, Kenya Navy, and Kenya Air Force. The Kenya Army protects the country against external land-based attacks, the Kenya Air Force protects Kenya’s air space from attacks while the Kenya Navy ensures that Kenyan waters are safe from piracy, sea-borne attacks and any other prohibited activities.

The Kenya army is headquartered in the Department of Defence (DoD), Hurlingham, Nairobi. On the other hand, the Kenya Air Force is headquartered in the Moi Air Base, Eastleigh, Nairobi. The Kenya Navy is headquartered in Mtongwe, Mombasa.

Below are the recruitment requirements one must meet in order to join the Kenya Defence Forces. Please note that the recruitment dates for 2019 have not yet been announced, so be careful of fraudsters. Recruitment dates will be communicated through the local dailies and the official Ministry Of Defence channels; website and social media.

  1. Recruits/ Service Men

Candidates wishing to join the Kenya Defence Forces as recruits must meet the following requirements:

1.Must be a Kenyan citizen.

2.Must be of age between 18 and 26 years old.

3.A minimum of mean grade D (Plain) in KCSE.

  1. Must be medically fit.
  2. Must have no criminal record.
  3. A minimum height of 5 ft 3 in. (5’3”).
  4. Minimum Weight:
    (a) Men – 54.55 Kg (120 lb).
    (b) Women – 50 Kg (110 lb).
  5. Female candidates must NOT be pregnant at the time of recruitment and during the entire duration of training.
  6. General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets

Candidates wishing to join the Kenya Defence Forces as cadets must meet the following requirements:

  1. Must be a Kenyan citizen with no dual citizenship

2.Must be in possession of a valid Kenyan National Identity Card

  1. Must be of age between 18 and 26 years old
  2. Must be physically and medically fit in accordance with the KDF standards.
  3. Must have no criminal record.
  4. Minimum Height:

(a) Men 1.60m (5ft 3in).

(b) Women 1.52m (5ft)

  1. Minimum Weight

(a) Men 54.55 Kg (120 lb).

(b) Women 50.00 Kg (110 lb).

  1. Female candidates must NOT be pregnant at the time of recruitment and during the entire duration of training.

Minimum Education Qualification For General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets 

Must hold a minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with at least C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics and one Science subject. The initial training period for this category will cover three (3) continuous years leading to a BSc in Military Science and Security Studies on successful completion.

N/B: The recruitment dates have not yet been announced and please note that no fee is required for one to be recruited into the Kenya Defence Forces. Anyone found extorting money from the public in the name of helping them to secure recruitment will be arrested.
