Delta State governorship: Ballot box snatching, violence rocks elections in riverine communities – The Delta state governorship elections has been rocked by violence and ballot box snatching especially in the riverine communities of Bomadi, Burutu and Ughelli South Local Government Areas of the State.

Although the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Great Ovedje Ogboru commended the peaceful process in his local government of Ethiope East, he however expressed fears over alleged pockets of violence in riverine areas.

The APC candidate, Great Ogboru who voted at Ward 1, Unit 8 Abraka Grammar Sch at 12noon expressed confidence that he will emerge victorious in the contest.

FINANCIAL WATCH also gathered that Delta Assembly candidate, Hon Evans Ivwurie, at Ward 2, Unit 6 & 7 at Erih units alleged that @OfficialPDPNig agents were chased away from Ward 2, Unit 2 Utoro Pry Sch, Utoro-Abraka community.

Meanwhile the incumbent governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ifeanyi Okowa expressed confidence that voters would renew his mandate for another four years.

The Governor who voted at exactly 8.40am at unit 03 of ward 02 (Oni Primary School), Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area, told newsmen that his administration has partnered very well with the peoples to warrant a renewal of the mandate.

He however expressed concern about the threats by a section of the political class to disrupt the process with thugs allegedly imported from neighbouring Edo State.

He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for deploying more corps members for the conduct of the election.

He said: “I will emerged victorious at the end of the day. We have partnered well with Deltans in the last four years, and I and very convinced that they will vote for me.

“But the only thing is those planning to disrupt the election with thugs from Edo State, but God will not allow that to happen”.
