There has been so much news flying around leading up to the long awaited return of President Muhammadu Buhari from vacation in London. The atmosphere is saturated with two opinions, one pointing to a mild routine medical check-up of which the president will soon get over with and return home; in the reverse side of the coin are the voice of majority wishing the president never makes it alive back to Nigeria.

Was it not God who instructed in the Christian holy book to pray for all those who bear rule? Why then do people make all sort of uncouth remarks about their leaders rather than praying for them?

Recently the entire atmosphere were awashed with rumours of death of Muhammadu Buhari, president and commander in chief of the arm forces of the federal republic of Nigeria. The rumour went like a wild fire the very day Buhari left the country for London on a ten day medical vacation. While some says he is seriously ill, others maintain he is dead and will not return again.

Since the whole brouhaha started, many questions have being begging for answers for answer, why will anyone wish his president dead? Where did the rumour emanate from? What does those behind the rumour seek to achieve. It may be difficult to provide answers to these puzzles

I understand quite perfectly that many of us want Buhari to leave this terrible world because we think ‘he’s the cause of our suffering’. Many people perceive Buhari to be an enemy that brought hardship to Nigeria, so they believe that once he dies, things will probably be in order.

However, the questions we must ask ourselves are: Will his death solve the problems on ground? Who says when he dies, things will go fine? Is death the solution to any man’s problem? And in fact, who says Buhari is the cause of our problem

It is also understandable that the case of late president Yar’ Adua is still fresh in our memories, but let’s not forget that Buhari is not Yar’ Adua. They have different medical histories.

Rather than wish the President dead, we should collectively pray for him, oh yes! He needs the prayer of every Nigeria, lets not forget that power comes from God alone, against all odds, God recognizes President Buhari as the leader of the people, therefore anyone who wishes him dead has a case to answer with God. He must come back to fulfil the promises he made to Nigerians during campaign.

Notwithstanding, the present government should learn from this, because it’s a clear indication that the masses are not happy with the style of leadership. This is a government that came to power with so many promises but has grossly disappointed majority of those who voted it into power.

Buhari and his team should focus on the economy and wealth creation, they should take urgent step to cushion the effect of the current economic recession biting hard on the people. Rather than dissipate energy on reacting to attacks it should come up with people oriented policies that can turn the fortune of the country around.

Nevertheless, if the President knows that he cannot continue any longer as a result of any perceived health challenge, let him toe the line of nobility and resign. I rest my case
